Omicron threat high in east Europe: WHO

A new wave of COVID-19 infections, fueled by the Omicron variant, is moving towards the east of Europe, said the World Health Organization, as it urged authorities to improve vaccination and other measures.

WHO′s Europe regional director, Hans Kluge, stated that during the past two weeks, cases have increased over two-fold in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Russia and Ukraine. The global health agency emphasized the continued need for containment measures, including rapid testing and mask wearing.

The statements came at a time when several countries on the continent, including the Czech Republic and Poland, have indicated that COVID-19 restrictions will be eased from next month if daily case numbers kept dropping… (ET Healthworld – Reuters, February 15, 2022)
